Visual Designer
The pandemic has shifted thousands of employees from in office to working from home. Plugable has provided thousands of products enabling these employees to do so. Plugable’s PR agency proposed to create a WFH survey to gain traction from popular media companies. As thought leaders, this was critical for Plugable to provide knowledge on productivity during these times.
Understanding Limitations
Once the results were ready, PR sent over key results along with a creative brief for their pitch. They also wanted to have different graphics such as icons and animations. Animations wasn't something that I had done before, but I accepted the challenge anyways. I proposed a mockup displaying the results given from the creative brief. Then, I collaborated with the web developers on a quick and effective solution.
Getting Creative
Since animations and graphs was something we haven’t done, I decided to start from there. I began outsourcing potential CSS graphs online. I provided a list of sources and worked with our developers to see if it's something we can work with. After discovering which worked best, I created a style on the graphics to use for the survey.
I looked at other sites with similar surveys and how they laid out their designs. I then planned the layout with a lo-fi mockup. Once approved, I followed with a hi-fi mockup of the survey and proposed it to the web developers to get started. However, we all noticed that the survey was missing something…color.
…Now push it.
I began asking questions, “How can I make this colorful? Where can we push the boundaries here? How can I avoid going too “off” brand?"
I shifted my attention to the product where the survey re-directed readers at the end. I used the secondary colors from the product imagery to bring the survey to life.
Not only was I able to design a responsive landing page, but I also pushed our brand with the animations and colors. I collaborated with the web developers by providing mockup annotations, which helped easily translate my designs.
This survey is now used across blogs, emails, and social media. We’ve even gained attention from popular media sources such as Forbes! This project pushed our design expectations and brand creativity to a whole new level.
