As a graphic designer for Plugable I also took product photography. During the back to school season we wanted to bring the attention to four products to our consumers such as the microscope, docking stations, and a keyboard.
To create photos like these I wanted to see what our competitors have done, what are some common themes around back to school and what can I take from outside back to school themes and incorporate them. A lot of the inspiration was from Nike and Addias with their use of bright colors and drop shadows.
I individually captured images of the products and finalized them in photoshop. Based on the inspiration and research, I decided to bring out the rich bright and neon colors that were primary and secondary colors. Chalk-like elements were also included as scribbles along with paint like blobs and basic shape forms to add to that school feel. I also chose this to relate not only to students from K-12 and also adapting an style that appeals to an older range of students as well.
The images were versatile and were used to create coupons, ads, and used for multiple platforms like our website and social platforms. The images gained traction and sales went up compared to regular sales that season.
